chess piece

We had to draw a realistic chess piece, it was fun, it took us 2 weeks to finish it and all of ours came out exceptional! I thought it was fun and I don't usually draw realistic but ever since I finished this drawing it changed my mind and I am now starting to draw realistic.

For the background our teacher said we had to make it abstract so it makes it interesting to look at...i think it does too.

Open Your Eyes

What is the main focus of the video: It's mostly the discrimination against other races, and what people actually feel and what they belive they can change.

Describe how the video gets this point across: Racism hurts people and our video is showing the impact of how people feel and where they come from and that it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, you should be treated with the same and equal respect as others

What techniques are used in the video to help convince the viewer of the point of the video. (Look at shots, music, content, text, voice, voice-over, sound fx etc.): For our video we took close up shots for the "emotion" we used wide a thick font so it's easy to read and so it stands out, when we were recording the voices we wanted it to be clear so people can understand what they were saying, all we basicly used was music in the background, and we carefully planned everything out before shooting.

4. Are you satisfied with the final product? Why/why not?: Yes i am definetly satisfied with our finished product. This was my first time i have ever done something like this and i think it was exceptional.

5. Whether or not you answered yes to the last question, describe how you would improve your video now that it's finished. Be specific in terms of camera shots, sound, quality, lighting etc: When we were finished the video and we looked at it i thought maybe at some points better lighting would of been better but besides that i think it went well, and it turned out good.

Coldplay: Strawberry Swing

I like this video because it's all done on a street. It's nice and i like how it starts, with him waking up in the morning and then he goes down stairs and then all of a sudden he hears this woman scream and then he jumps into action, and through the whole video he is basically finding ways to stop the evil squirrel and save the woman.

1. What is Surrealism: surrealism is literature and movement put together to create an image to express the artistic values of the 20th century.

2. Show 3 examples of Surrealist art (listing the artist’s name): the first one ( the butterfly) is by Vladimir Kush ,Moonlight Sonata, the second one is from Artsgrie, Panic Attack Or Anxiety. And the third one is from Chris O' Doherty, Large Egg Resting Softly

3. Pick one Surrealist artist and briefly discuss their view on surrealism: I pick Artsgrie because i like the concept about the train trying to escape the waves in the desert, its kind of random but it creates a good picture. I thought there view on this peice of art was different yet satisfying to the audience.

4. Find two examples of Surrealism in modern day photography using Photoshop (or…perhaps not using Photoshop) (list the photographer and explain if you can, how it was done): I chose Oliver Cereto because i like his picture. He used photoshop for this picture the steps he used were, at first he placed the sky and the background, although he used different colours that you don't really see in the sky, and so that creates some of the surrealism with the balcance tool. And then he duplicated the sky and repeated the previous steps. after that he erased some of the "useless details" and in the option bar he selected the blur brush to blur the sky. After that the "model" was incorporated he used the selection tool and clicked on the " add layer mask" button. He position the model in the middle of the page and by pressing the " image adjustment" he starts to play around with the models dress colors and her hair color to come together with the background. And through the hole photoshop tutorial he is basically just adjusting the models dress and background colours. And after all that he just finds some images from a website and puts them on the picture he is creating, he then deforms the branches and makes them apart of her body

And then you got a man named:Jeffrey Michael Harp,he created a picture with this woman's face coming off her head. When i was looking at his picture he said nothing about using photoshop...so i don't know if he did or not.

cyber surrealism

This is a video I decided to take of forks. It is stop motion animation and the characters are made of plaster cine except the forks. The concept is that the "Man" fork comes on stage, he hears a sound and then appears a "Woman" fork. She has hearts in her eyes and decides to chase him around. Once they come around the table they both hear a sound, they drop to the floor and out comes a girl/ woman (doesn't matter) and becomes suspicious of what had happened recently.

optical toys/ Illusions

Alright...so i was looking at some optical toys on a site. I like most of the devices but there is one that is my favorite and that would be the Zoetrope. The Zoetrope was invented in 1834 by a man named: William Horner. To create the motion the "drum" is spun, the faster you rotate it the "smoother" it moves to create the illusion. so if you want to check it out just look under: links and experience the optical toys/ illusions.

Video Sequencing

A few days ago i got another assignment to check out a few links. I was reading this one link and thought it was cool. The person who wrote it gave some useful information like: " when shooting a sequence you have to anticipate action." and " Try to shoot a variety of shots." I think if you were to read it, it would be helpful.

Logo Design Assignment By: Danielle
COMPANY:

For this assignment I chose to do a Griffin. A griffin is a legendary creature and like our productions we are successful and independent. Our personality in this company is mighty, secure and substantial. We are also daring, forward and confident. There fore we are energetic and wild. With all those personalities we try to make our productions number one.

Griffin:

A Griffin has a lion body (including the head) and eagle wings. As said and heard, a lion is considered the king of beasts and an eagle is considered to be the king of the birds. It is a symbol of divine power. Throughout time a Griffin is known as a majestic creature.
Represents:
This creature represents me as an independent person who feels the need for adventure and try my best to succeed. It symbolizes me in a way that it is possible to reach my full potential.

Logo solutions:
My 1-logo solutions was difficult to make, but once I got the hang of things it all worked out. My original Golden Griffin Logo consisted of a few colors: gold (yellow almost) red and blue. I wasn’t really thinking when I was deciding my color choice; it just came to me once I played around with a few colors

My 2-logo solution was fun and easy to make because all I needed was 2 colors and that was black and white. I still like the first one better but it did leave a thought in my mind almost like I was getting a dark feeling. It really changed my perspective from the first one to the second one.

My 3-logo was a bit tricky, at first I didn’t get the whole “grayscale thing” until I was playing around with the colors and hit this one gray spot. I looked up at the computer screen and then my griffin was changed from a normal gray color to a beautiful gradient-like Griffin.

When choosing how thick or thin my lines would be I chose thin to make the Griffin look graceful and almost elegant. Although for the words I took a dramatic change and made the letters bold so your eye would be attracted to the letters before the picture so you notice what I producing. Now when I started with the direction I knew it was going to face left, I just felt that it looked better facing the left. When I was finished thinking through everything, colour popped into my head, A nice complementary colour (yellow) with more of a solid darker color (blue and red.) Altogether I think this production creates unity.

I was hoping that the feelings of this production would evoke strength, empowerment, beauty and accomplishment. The lines are edgy and unique; it comes together to make a logo that represents a soft side and a tough side.

Out of all 3 of my production logo’s my favorite and the one that best represents my company would be the first Golden Griffin Logo design. I think it meets the criteria of this logo assignment although if I were to keep my griffin a black silhouette or a grayscale it probably wouldn’t match the name (Golden Griffin Productions.) I really like making logos and I hope to continue designing them.

LINE RHYTHM 2:       By: Designer Danny

For this line rhythm i indicated that it was a bit more unsteady, with the wavy lines showing it was somewhat out of control yet still creating a rhythm. My idea with this one was that the rhyhm would be less flowing. I guess it was suppose to represent a piano, just because a pianos more flowing so i thought of making it the opposite.

Basic colours used: Black and White. The balance is off (not by alot)
LINE RHYTHM.     by: Designer Danny

for This design the lines indicate that it's a straight forward message that shows it's steady. I had an idea that this picture of rhythm would be simple and the lines would be thick so people could read them easily. I think it works well just because of how the lines flow.
the position of the lines are so that the person that looks at it can tell they are moving in the same direction.

For The value in this picture there is just 2 colours: black and white. I also left spaces in between so that you could see the thickness. For proportion i tryed to make the lines the same width apart so the lines are consistant. The balance is straight forward just because they all move in the same direction.

jacob riis: "street arabs in the area of mulberry street"

Imitationalism:
This amazing piece of art is from Jacob Riis: "Street Arabs In The Area Of Mulberry Street." Jacob Riis made it clear that this picture was soppose to be realistic although due to the colours he used (Black and White)it makes it somewhat unrealistic. This photograph does in someway imitates real life. If you look at the background you can see that the bricks are very realistic and all the rest of the background is too.

Emotionalism:

Jacob Riis proberly wanted people to feel very emotional about this photograph. The children are bunched together as if they are cold and homeless. The feeling im getting from this is that they are very somber and very morose. They also make me feel pessimistic, it's as if im afraid a of whats going to happen next. The mood is gloomy and depressing. It communicates a strong message yet still very enduring. When looking at this picture all i could think about was emotion it was hard to gear away from that (in my opinion.)

Formalism:

When looking at the design qualities in this photograph i think that the organization and line arrangement comes to mind. If you look closely you can see that the children are placed in a position so that the variety and balance evens it out. This picture is a very intense photograph and thats what makes it communicate with the audience that observes it. I think that the space was used carefully and deliberately so it creates the illusion of unity balance and emphasis.
