Helvetica
Helvetica Movie Quotations and Blog
Choose one or two of the following quotations and respond to them in a way that summarises the content or message of the movie as well as expresses your opinion on the role and use of typefaces message or meaning of your work. You will need to address the Helvetica typeface specifically in your blog entry
“Governments and Corporations love Helvetica because, on the one hand it makes them look neutral and efficient, but also the smoothness of the letters makes them seem almost human. This is important to them because the image they’re always fighting is that they are authoritarian and that you can get lost in them …”
This quote is saying that Hevetica is eligible and easy to understand. The letters are fluent and they can be used anywhere. in my opinion i think that Helvetica is great. It's something i would use practically all the time. You won't have to worry about people struggling to read it (although it does depend on the way you use it) it's clear and it gets your point across. For example a lot of people use Helvetica for logos for stores and designs. People are going to want to go somewhere where they can understand what the brand is going to sell. If they don't understand what the brand is selling the chances of them shopping there are slim.
Some people choose not to like Helvetica because they say it is plain and boring and they see it everywhere.Although some people think that it's great to stick to the rules and have everything the same.
When we were watching Helvetica there was mixed thoughts of how designers liked to use it and how some of them had no use for it. It was interesting to listen to the people who got interviewed as they told us their thoughts of the advantages and disadvantages of Helvetica.
Manuel Bruni
“We like restrictions … the more restrictions we have the happier we are.”
I chose this quote because some people like to see themselves as people who follow the rules and by using Helvetica it shows that it is another rule to go by.That doesn't mean it's a bad thing.Rules keep things balanced and understanding and by using Helvetica it keeps everything the same.It also means that there is clarity within the words.
In my opinion i like Helvetica because of the rules. It's not messy and it is well organized. It's versatile and easy.

DIGITAL SURREALISM ASSIGNMENT By: Danielle miller
What did you do? : When I was brainstorming for this project I decided to make me as a tree. I got some help taking the picture, and then after that I uploaded the picture on the computer so I could start changing it.
What was your idea? : My idea was a simple idea or so I thought I could make it simple. I tried not to put too much and I didn’t want to put to little. The tree was supposed to mean different things to different people, whether it was an environmental cause or just a funny picture.
Why did you use the elements you did? : I used different elements like layers (a lot) colours images from Google smudging cutting and filtering (which I never used before) I thought if I used all these elements it would create a better picture.
What was the Meaning behind them and how did you compile them to create your “dream”? : When I was close to finishing I realized that I was happy, at least it looked like a tree and people recognized it as one. It was almost like a tree dream, I never made myself as a tree and now I know exactly how I would look.
How did you do what you did? : When I was on Photoshop I was worried that the tree would come out horrible once I started to play around with it I got a hang of it and I made a whole bunch of layers and smudged them on my original picture.
What steps did you take? : I was looking at a whole bunch of tutorials on the computer but then some steps were hard to follow so I did what I thought that would improve this project.
What photographs were original, which were found and where were they found:All pictures were found on the computer on Google like the branches the tree trunk the hair and the background along with the person.
How did you blend them together? : If I needed to blend anything together I would select the layer and then click on the smudge tool.
What tools did you use and how did you use them? : I used smudging for the tree trunk branches and background, filtering if I needed to cut something out, layers to arrange everything in order, colour for anything that needed to be lighter or darker, and that’s about it.
What did you learn and did you use filters, contrasts lighting, blending and how? : I learned that if you choose to do a simple picture sometimes it turns out to be simple, but if not it will possibly be hard to do. Since I used filtering and blending it came in handy but I actually didn’t get to use the lighting and contrast.
I was definitely satisfied, although I would possibly go through way more backgrounds if I had a little more time. I thought adding the animals were hard and smudging was easy. Overall I am happy with the results.

What is the main focus of this video?
The main focus of this video is that the people have been silenced and through the video they open their eyes. Beside the peoples faces there are words that mean "stop racism" in different languages.
Shots: most of the shots are close up shots, because its focusing on there faces such as there eyes and the real emotion behind racism.
Sequencing: Since most of the shots are close up the sequencing becomes more interesting. All there eyes are closed so it brings out more of the emotion. It creates more of a dramatic effect.
Sound/Voice over: There is no voice over just words, and there is music in the background but there is no speaking
Text: When i was viewing this video the first thing i recognized was the words that popped up beside their faces. Turns out the words all meant the same thing...just in different languages.
How does this video convince the viewer: I find that this video has a strong meaningful and emotional message, when i first watched I knew right there that this was the video I wanted to post. I think that this video does convinced the viewers that racism is around us but is can be stopped.
